Vortex Anemometer
Vortex Anemometer for Vehicles
Vortex Storm Chaser Magnetic Mount Anemometer works with a Wind Sensor with digital display.
This instrument is designed for vehicle mounting. Registers wind speed up to 100 mph. Powered by a coin battery for about 1 year of typicalinter mittent use.
The anemometers magnetic mounting consists of two heavy duty magnets on aluminum bracket. Total pull strength rate of the the magnets is over 110lbs which has been tested in winds over 115 mph.
The unit is calibrated - you do not need to do anything but connect the dispaly!
However - if you should need to change the battery in the display, you will need to enter the proper " WS" for the unit to display the right wind speed.
The number is 0711 for MPH
For a readout in KPH, ENTER 1144
For readout in Knots, enter 0641; unit for Knots on dispaly shows KMH
The Vortex intended for casual use and should provide wind speed data within approximately 4% of the reading from ~10 mph to ~50 mph or +/-1mph. The vortex will register speeds well iver 100 mph, and we believe it to be accurate at those speeds, but it has not been verified at speeds above 50 mph.
Tehe calibration memory of the Vortex isot affected by the length of the wire - use as much as you want! Any wire will work!
Replacement batteries are available in stores or from Max Instrumentation Ltd ( model number CR2032 ) Do not undo the little screws to get the battery - Just twist!
To remove the display from the braket: simply twist the display to the left while holding the bracket. ( The bracket is the part behind the display with the wire coming out).
The display will stay on as long as the rotor is turning. Remove the display from the bracket ( or disconnect the wire ) to conserve the battery. Removal from the bracket does not affect calibration.
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT AVERAGE WIND SPEED:
The display will only recod and average when the wind is blowing. It stops recording below approximately 1 mph. That means that if the wind blows fro 2 hours at 20 mph and 2 hours at zero mph, the average shown will be 20 mph, not 10 mph! Please keep this in mind for your desired use of the Vortex.
Instalation & Operation
Connect the display and spin the rotor to make sure everyhting is working FIRST THING.
Mount it as high up as you can in order to to get it into clean air. Connect the dispaly, there is no polarity for the unterminated wire models, stick the display where you like it, and voila!
Note that the display is water resistant, NOT waterproff - and should NOT be left out of doors for extended period of time. the rest is simply a matter of displaying the information you want to see on display: current speed, max speed, average speed, etc.
Maintenace
The Vortex is not hard to clean, as follows:
- Remove the two screws that hold the plate under the Vortex body
- Carefully remove (pry off) the circlip on bottom of the shaft (good luck finding it if you drop it! )
- Remove the shaft and rotor assembly and clean thoroughly - do not oil - graphite (dry) lube only.
- Reassemble in reverse order.
